How can I be happy with all that is going on in the world and here at home!

When is there going to be a better time?   Honestly, in what season of your life have you had the leisure to just think about being happy!  When was the world at peace and you were at peace at the same time?

In my lifetime, I watched my grandparents and parents dealing with the aftermath of the depression and World War ll. Then the Korean War.  Then Vietnam,  Various economic and social upheavals. And on and on.

Not to be a bummer, but there's always something to be upset about.

What better time than right now to develop your happiness?

Happiness is not a state of forgetfulness, or ignoring the woes of the world.  Being happy most of the time (because happiness is not a steady state either)  puts you in a more resilient, energized and creative state of being.  And from there, you can more easily affect the world in a positive way. 

Honestly, most of us are not meant to walk the world stage. and influence millions of people at a time.  But that doesn't mean our contributions are negligible or  even minor!

You positively influencing those around you can directly influence your friend's happiness, and their friends happiness as well.  And if each of those people become a seed of happiness, well, you can see how it grows! 

Happiness IS a state where you can draw on resources you already have, and habits of happiness you can develop, to "right the ship"  when negativity threatens to swamp you.

Our brains are wired to maximize the chances of our survival.  That means looking for danger.  Which in our modern life translates into a bunch of negative thinking and maladaptive behaviors.

 

But we can change that!

Knowing it's just a brain thing and we don't have to believe everything we think, we are free to choose new thoughts. And viewing our emotions as DATA not destiny   tells us where to look to make the changes that will enhance our happiness.
